Castle · History Museum
Most people know Carisbrooke Castle as the place where Charles I was imprisoned. Nowadays this 12th-century Norman castle offers visitors a variety of activities. Explore the grounds of this well-preserved fortress, including the Great Hall, the Great Chamber, and several smaller rooms open to the public. A museum within the castle features Charles I memorabilia and objects connected to the Isle of Wight. Take a stroll along the gravel paths of the Edwardian-style Princess Beatrice Garden, and visit the adjacent chapel. Kids will enjoy a visit to the castle's resident donkeys as they demonstrate turning a 16th-century tread wheel. A tearoom serves a selection of hot and cold food, and there is plenty of room for picnicking on the grounds, which have benches and picnic tables. • I loved it here! πŸ˜„ Great day out for all. The donkeys are so cute. 😍 The medieval events that are on are amazing, and the view from the top of the castle is incredible! The museum is very interesting and all the staff are friendly and helpful. Very very highly recommend!!! ☺️
  • This is a really amazing castle in fantastic condition. There is plenty for the children to do and so much to see. We particularly enjoyed the view from the tower and all the information dotted around the site. The children loved that there are donkeys at the site and that you can see them in action operating the well. The staff were really helpful and friendly. Also there is a really great coffee shop/tea room
