Central Park, New York City

4.8
In the midst of all of the city's concrete and high-rises, Central Park brings greenery and shady places for relaxation--as well as a zoo, carousel, skating rink, theater, and several fountains--to the northern part of the city. Stroll, bike, picnic, or people-watch among 341 hectares (843 acres) of lakes, jogging paths, woodlands, walkways, lawns, and trees. One of the country's major historical landmarks, the park hosts frequent concert, plays, and art shows. Stop by the Alice in Wonderland statue, a favorite place for photos. • This park is just amazing! It feels like your in a movie, with all the tall buildings framing this beatiful nature in the middle of Manhattan. Recommended and a must see when going to New York! A litt...  more »

  • Must do the row boats once in your life. The cost is very friendly. I think it was a $20 deposit that you get back and $15 for an hour which is enough. The views and peaceful serenity you feel while o...  more »

  • The ultimate escape on a sunny day. We rented bikes and my family and I spent the morning riding along the shady roads soaking in a wonderful New York experience. Later we were relaxing on one of the many grass areas and a live jazz band set up nearby and started playing. It was awesome. Central Park is truly one of the jewels of New York City. We felt safe and saw no indication of any crime or problems anywhere. In fact people seemed very pleasant and friendly. There were lots of families with kids laughing and playing it was an amazing experience. Can't wait to visit again.
  • Central Park is an awesome place to take a time out from your hustling and bustling in the Big Apple. It is actually quite peaceful in the heart of the park. Relax and watch a ball game, people watch, pick a quiet spot to plan your next site stop or just climb up on the rocks for your next great NYC photo. I took a time out and had my lunch here before hopping the subway at Columbus Circle to the Brooklyn Bridge. This place is another one of those things that is great about NYC - a place to slow down smack in the middle of the metropolis. I love NYC!!!
  • Big park. Lots of fun little places to sit and enjoy the scenery. Many small parks without the large park that are perfect for children. Hiking trails and stunning rocks. A lake has kelp flowers (which is not great) but it's beautiful; There are many large wild animals with turtles and dragonflies and others. Great place to picnic and play and explore the kids.
  • Central Park is definitely the place to PEOPLE WATCH. It is truly amazing how quiet it is. Lying in the middle of the hustle and bustle of this large noisy city, you can actually find peace and quiet. I loved just sitting on the bench looking up at the buildings and seeing all the green space in the middle of this concrete jungle. Simply breath taking with the small patches of snow still left from winter. It was awesome the past March.
  • I loved Central Park. There is a bike path around the park. There are walking/running paths within the park. My only complaint that isn't really a complaint is that there is so much to see and I didn't have enough to see it all. My favorite part was probably the Ramble, it was like going to another world. Beautiful bridges, awesome sculptures, ponds, playgrounds, benches to sit and take it all in. A must visit if you're in New York City, I understand why it is so popular now that I've seen it for myself.

Where to stay in New York City

The first step to finding accommodations in New York City is finding the right neighborhood. Manhattan, where most visitors end up, offers some of the most expensive rooms in the world, though there are lower-budget options, such as hostels with shared restrooms. Reduce your costs by basing yourself in one of the outer boroughs, but beware of low-end motels where you may end up sharing the premises with hourly customers. Alternatively, stay along the New Jersey shore, offering all the major chain hotels at considerably lower prices than their Manhattan equivalents.
