Chrysler Building, New York City

4.5
Known for its classic Art Deco architecture, Chrysler Building is one of the city's most recognizable landmarks. Located on Manhattan's east side, the 319 m (1046 ft) skyscraper, built in 1930, used to be the world's tallest building until the construction of the Empire State Building. Because it was originally intended to be the Chrysler Corporation's headquarters, the building has replicas of 1929 Chrysler radiator caps as the corner ornamentation on the 31st floor. Although much of the building is leased to businesses and unavailable to visitors, take a moment to admire the building's exterior and visit the lobby to get a closer look at the Art Deco details and the renowned ceiling mural by Edward Trumbull. • The unique art déco architecture makes the Chrysler building worth seeing. In particular the characteristic steel Crown at the top is unique.

  • My fave building in NYC! I love looking at it from all different angles and heights. It always reminds me of the movie Metropolis! Art Deco architecture at its finest.  more »
  • It may not be the tallest building in Manhattan but it is certainly one of the most attractive one. Typical art deco structure and the fantastic crown especially attractive at night when it is lit up....  more »

  • Truly the most stunning of art deco buildings to be found anywhere on the planet. Well worth seeing in the flesh and your trip won't be wasted as Grand Central is one block down, the NY Library and Bryant Park another couple of blocks along and then you reach Broadway and Times Sq, assuming you are heading west.
  • This building is stunning, beautiful, and is one of my favorite buildings in NYC. The design of this building is absolutely gorgeous. It was the tallest in the world for around a year during the early 1930s. However, for whatever reason, the observatory closed down in 1945, and a private lunch club there in 1979. It sucks that the observatory no longer open. It would really attract tourists to go there if the observatory kept opened. At least, the lobby is open and is free for anyone to go there, located near Grand Central Terminal.
  • I absolutely love the Chrysler Building, it's one my favourites and comes before the Empire State Building and the One world trade Center. I find the architecture really impressive and at night the light looks really nice, you can see it from Broadway (Street).
  • One of the most beautiful buildings i have ever seen in my life. At least from outside. Definitely worth visiting.
  • I have never been there i only watch it on TV or in my phone the place is really beautiful such a great atmosphere love the chysler building one of the most beautifull building in new york love to see there one day

Where to stay in New York City

The first step to finding accommodations in New York City is finding the right neighborhood. Manhattan, where most visitors end up, offers some of the most expensive rooms in the world, though there are lower-budget options, such as hostels with shared restrooms. Reduce your costs by basing yourself in one of the outer boroughs, but beware of low-end motels where you may end up sharing the premises with hourly customers. Alternatively, stay along the New Jersey shore, offering all the major chain hotels at considerably lower prices than their Manhattan equivalents.
