Tiffany & Co., New York City

4.3
#9 of 117 in Shopping in New York City
Admire glamorous jewelry and pick up something extra special at Tiffany & Co.. The iconic one-stop shop for luxury accessories is most noted for its diamonds. In fact, a gemologist from the company played an important role in creating the metric carat as the standard weight measurement for gemstones. Be sure to admire the glittering window displays before you enter. In the film "Breakfast at Tiffany's," Holly Golightly, played by Audrey Hepburn, had a habit of visiting the window displays with a pastry in hand. How can you not go? You have to! On the ground floor a sober with dream jewels ... watching them, watching them and then a Lady tells you: cheapest items are on the third floor. But how did figure out which ones I couldn't afford them? Maybe for the sneakers and backpack as a perfect tourist penniless? ;) On the third floor there are gone, but I liked the ones on the first floor, then ... bye bye Tiffany!

I just love the way I am treated in Tiffany's. Of course, those of us who can't drop thousands on diamonds flock to the 6th floor to buy a charm or tiny silver necklace, but the staff still makes you ...  more »

Always helpful and happy with purchase. I sent a bracelet over through customer service and got it cleaned well with extra pouches. Found some scratches on my ring but the staff handled it very professionally.

So big, so spacious and so much old world charm. It's a beautiful experience shopping here. Love the vibe

This has got to be one of the most beautiful jewelry store in NY city. I have been shopping here for over 10 years and always enjoy my experience whether I buy something or not. Sales force not to pushy and very willing to help. Definitely a rarity nowadays.

It's fabulous, of course, it's Tiffany's! If you are serious about a purchase you need to ask for a personal shopper, otherwise the service is horrendous (applies to the wedding/engagement floor). I'm giving 4 stars because our personal shopper was great and very patient while our visit when we stopped in at a time she wasn't available almost made me never come back. We were completely ignored, the security gaurd had to help us get the attention of the 3 staff members behind the counter that refused to acknowledge us and when we finally spoke to one of them they were arrogant and totally dismissive (This is after my fiance had already bought my engagement ring at the store). If we had just stuck to our personal shopper I'd give 5 stars without hesitation.

This store is so hard to get into with the security around there for trumps building. It may be easier to go down to the financial district store than even bother with this one. Staff is also overwhelmed with customers

Where to stay in New York City

The first step to finding accommodations in New York City is finding the right neighborhood. Manhattan, where most visitors end up, offers some of the most expensive rooms in the world, though there are lower-budget options, such as hostels with shared restrooms. Reduce your costs by basing yourself in one of the outer boroughs, but beware of low-end motels where you may end up sharing the premises with hourly customers. Alternatively, stay along the New Jersey shore, offering all the major chain hotels at considerably lower prices than their Manhattan equivalents.
