Create an itinerary including Museu Nacional da Escravatura
Explore a modest monument commemorating the suffering inflicted upon the Angolan people at Museu Nacional da Escravatura. Located in a two-story colonial building once used for processing and transferring slaves, the museum overlooking the ocean contains a chapel with adjacent rooms. Examine the site where millions of slaves were baptized and later exported to Portuguese colonies in America. As you enter the structure, you can inspect a small collection of mostly photographic memorabilia; to learn more about the site, ask the staff members to fill in the context with historical facts. • Visited with my kids. Great little museum with descriptions in English. Next to the museum was a local market with paintings and hand made items. Well worth the visit.

  • This is an important historical site in Angola. It tells a lot about the slave trade. Be sure to visit the multipurpose room adjacent to the bathrooms in a separate building at the bottom of the hill. It houses photos of several slave sites along the Kwanzas River.
  • Built exactly at the point where the slaves were embarked to Brazil and other destinations in America. The museum presents visitors with tools and information about the slavery Era. A must-visit tourist attraction in Luanda.
