Explore the world of music at Haus der Musik Wien--an interactive discovery museum in the heart of Vienna's first district. Awarded with the Austrian Museum Prize for its innovative design, the museum occupies the former palace of Archduke Charles. Opened in 2000, this citadel of music was also the residence of Otto Nicolai, the composer of the opera "The Merry Wives of Windsor" and founder of the Vienna Philharmonic. Engage in a range of high-tech, interactive, and multimedia presentations. See how the approach to music has changed from the earliest human use of instruments to the music of the present day. A must visit museum for all classical music aficionados. The best floor in my opinion was the history one where they showcased memorabilia from the times of the old masters. This was really immersive. They could have had a bit more interactive stuff, but what they had was already pretty cool. Also, they have a grand piano in the ground floor that is open to public. However, there was a concert going on at that time and we weren't allowed to play it.

An interesting and sometimes quirky museum experience. Most of the exhibits are informative and interesting. Some of the interactive exhibits get monopolized by children or groups making them inaccessible to others. We overdosed on the biographies of famous composers. Fun and creative items are available in the gift shop.
