Create an itinerary including Hofburg
Once home to Vienna's monarchy, Hofburg gives a fascinating look into imperial life through a display of personal items of former Habsburg monarchs. Along with the historical museums, the palace--called the Vienna Hofburg--now houses the president of Austria and offices of the federal government. In the Imperial Apartments, you'll discover the apartments of Franz Joseph and his wife, Elisabeth. Visit the Imperial Silver Collection for a glimpse into the lavish lengths to which the monarchs went to entertain. You'll see about 7,000 relics of the imperial dining culture, such as exquisite kitchen linens, the imperial table, and ornate centerpieces. The Sisi Museum features more than 300 personal items of Empress Elisabeth. Through her parasols, beauty recipes, and death mask, you'll gain an understanding of this often-misunderstood monarch. By using our Vienna day trip planning site, you can arrange your visit to Hofburg and other attractions in Vienna.

  • It is an impressive and imposing building that houses a variety of exhibits. I honestly can't understand the purpose of all these massive internal staircases that take up almost half of the palace. Finally, the Greek antiquities are as if they were simply stored there and not as if they were being exhibited.
  • One the most important seats of power in Europe for centuries it is a must see for anyone interested in history. Fabulous palace full of history in the heart of enchanting Vienna. See the butterfly greenhouse attached to the palace for something for all ages from 1-99.
