Travel across moat and drawbridge to reach Fort St. Catherine, one of the first coastal fortifications that English settlers built in the Americas. An impressive historical site, its construction first began in 1612 from timber, quickly replaced by stone in 1614 and rebuilt 5 times in its lifetime, the most recent at the end of the 19th century. FIve eighteen ton canons protect the fort, which overlooks Achilles Bay and St Catherine boasting dramatic views. It now acts as a museum housing an extensive collection of artefacts, photographs and displays-- come here to learn the history of Bermudian military in a World Heritage Site. Forts never used. Cannons never fired. Much ado about not much. Interesting pile of limestone with some oddities and a great view from the top of well the ocean. With so little to see of interest...

We arrived only a half an hour before closing (a local had told us it would take a lot less time to walk) and so had to rush through the displays, but enjoyed reading as much as we could and seeing...

Nicely preserved fort with extensive signage explaining each area. Great views off the main deck and the top of the keep. For history buffs, worth the walk from St. George's. Note: you can bring strollers in (there's nowhere to check them anyway), but there are stairs you need to navigate to get through the fort. We did fine with a City Mini and our 25lb toddler, but larger strollers and/or kids would be difficult to carry through.

Spectacular! One of the best attractions I've been to. You get to tour the ENTIRE fort!! Very few places are not accessible (some parts are just pure storage). But, you get to go underground into the belly of the fort, you get to go on the very top with the cannons. There is a small museum in the entrance, and a small part in the barracks. Staff were super friendly and helpful. Highly recommend!!!
