Create an itinerary including Donkey Sanctuary Bonaire
Visit Donkey Sanctuary Bonaire and meet its charming residents. Founded in 1939 by a Dutch couple, the sanctuary provides refuge and care for sick or orphaned donkeys in Bonaire. Take a drive through the large park where the donkeys are free to roam--you can pet them and feed them carrots on the drive. Visit the special care meadow, where pregnant, injured, and baby donkeys are kept, learn about the efforts of the sanctuary, and support the donkeys by buying souvenirs from the gift shop. After the tour, you can admire tortoises and iguanas in the garden, or relax with a refreshing drink on the terrace, which overlooks a salt lake. • Absolutely wonderful place to go. One of our best times on the island and will absolutely return. Would recommend to anyone and everyone. The lady running the place is very informative and VERY passionate about saving the donkeys. We loved to see it. The staff working are eager to chat and have a lot of love for the animals. Donkeys were sweet, curious and affectionate. They are very gentle and loved their pats. We adored them. This is a must visit, whether you are visiting or a resident. We drove our scooter but if you have a truck you can feed them! If you forget to donate you can put some money in the donation box near the airport security door when you leave 😉
  • did not know what we were in for… in the best possible way! no need to book reservations, you can just drive through the gate, park, and purchase tickets ($7/person when we went) at the gift shop. the majority of the “tour” is self-guided and in the car. before you begin, but feed at the shop to feed the donkeys. they will try to enter your car; drive carefully. the trail (unpaved, lots of rocks) goes around the perimeter of the 150 acre enclosure. it was around 3pm when we went, and the donkeys were all eating at the troughs along the path. after the driving, you can walk into the “special care” enclosure and see the donkeys even closer. there, they have some turtles, flamingos, and iguanas as well. the owner, who has run the place for 30 years or so, is wonderful, too.
