Create an itinerary including St. Andrews Blockhouse
Step back in time to the war of 1812 with a visit to the historic St. Andrews Blockhouse, the province's oldest blockhouse. The shelter with small windows was used as an observation point for British soldiers surveying the bay and nearby border on the lookout for American invaders. The architecture is representative of 19th century military defense, and interpretive displays and guides tell more about the building's history and significance. Inside you'll find the preserved living quarters of the soldiers. Though partially destroyed by a fire in 1993, the blockhouse has been carefully restored and remains very close to its original appearance. • A quick stop to learn a bit about history. It's in a quite beautiful setting, especially when the tide is out. The building wasn't open but it was still neat to see.

  • The Blockhouse is a historic site, and a great place to visit. During operating hours there ate pleasant staff to answer questions about the building and it's significance. It's close to a spit where you can let your dog off-leash(best at low tide). There is also a parkette immediately across the street with nice landscaping, benches, and public washrooms.
  • Nice historical side...beach was awesome...my dog was so happy took off and run zoomis in the sand...there is a fresh water stream to wash the sand away...excellent..plenty of parking not crowded nice rock formations iverlooking Bay of Fundy...free!
