Create an itinerary including Church of St. Vitus
Church of St. Vitus dominates the town with its Neo-Gothic tower, which symbolizes the might of the holy Christendom. The 15th-century church has been remodeled many times. The interior of the church is predominantly Neo-Gothic, with a 16th-century baptismal fountain adorned with red marble columns and three Baroque confession booths in the rear. Notice the paintings depicting the coronations of the Virgin Mary and St. Vitus above the Early Baroque high altar. The chapel, adjacent to the left nave, holds the hearts of several members of the Schwarzenberg family, the red marble gravestones of Rosenbergs, and a portion of St. John of Nepomuk's elbow bone in a silver reliquary. • This is a mandatory church stop while in town, but having seen so many churches on our vacation, this one did not rise to the level of must see - wow. Still, worth a poke inside for a few pictures...

  • it is one of the most well-preserved and historically significant churches in the region. The church was built in the 14th century, and has undergone many renovations and additions over the centuries. Today, it is a stunning example of Gothic architecture, with intricate stone carvings and beautiful stained glass windows. One of the most striking features of the church is the frescoes that adorn the walls and ceiling. These frescoes are some of the best-preserved examples of medieval art in the Czech Republic, and are a must-see for anyone visiting the church. The church also houses several pieces of religious art and artifacts, including a wooden statue of St. Vitus that dates back to the 14th century. Additionally, the church has a beautiful organ that is still in use today.
  • Huge and amazing. Free entrance but only a small place is for tourists to stand and walk
