His nude portraits are rich in anatomical detail and were controversial at the time, forcing the artist to leave town after only two years. A big painted city map, in a small room on the top floor, shows the locations of the various landscapes in Schiele's paintings. This small museum was great to learn more about the artist Egon Schiele himself, but also houses works by other famous artists who were later inspired by his work or who worked with him, as well as the work of some younger artists who've completed residencies at the center. Definitely worth a visit! To see everything and take your time, plan about 2-3 hours.

A very beautiful museum with various art installations. The most important was that of the resident artist Egon Schiele but the Japanese sculptor Tets Ohnari was a great surprise. His work was amazing. The staff were very pleasant and the souvenir shop downstairs well stocked with posters and other memorabilia.
