  • By bad luck or timing (only for us) the Church was undergoing Major renovations and was covered in scaffolding & dust matting but hopefully will exit the cocoon as a new building for future viewers...

  • This is the oldest stone church in the city and located in the center of the old medieval town. Construction started 1330 and was finished 1420. + parking close by + no charge to visit the church + friendly staff + beautiful interior
  • The beautiful Gothic Church of St. James, with its slender 86 m tall tower, is a defining landmark on the Kutná Hora skyline. It is the oldest church in the town. Its construction began in 1330 and ended in 1420. The church original plans icluded two towers but it turned out that the ground beneath was too unstable due to silver mining to hold two towers. The unfinished part of the second tower is visible on the church exterior. For the unusual height of its tower, the church was also referred to as the Tall or High Church until the 17th century. The interior combines Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque architecture.
