Create an itinerary including St Barbara's Church
Famous for its eye-catching spires and well-preserved medieval frescoes, St Barbara's Church counts among the finest Gothic structures in all of Europe, and is inscribed on the World Heritage List. Construction started in 1380 and continued for nearly three centuries, until the silver in the local mine began to run out in the 1550s. Finally completed in the 19th century, the building features ribbed vaulting and several side chapels, noted for their wall murals depicting everyday scenes from the life of a thriving medieval mining town. Take a good look at the frescoes, but don't forget to visit the cathedral's east terrace, offering panoramic views of the city. • My husband and I came here and were in awe of how beautiful the cathedral was - both outside and in. The gothic architecture is phenomenal. The gargoyle pieces upstairs were also nice to see...

  • This is one of the most beautiful cathedrals in Europe. The Gothic flying buttresses, the multi-spired roof and the setting are all impressive. Even the walk to it across the sculpture lined bridge....  more

  • I didn't expect I'd be so amazed by this temple. An Architectural gem, with a vast variety of monuments around and a unique light inside the temple due to the unusually large windows. Certainly worth visiting!
  • One of the most awesome cathedrals I've seen in my life. Very big and so full of details from different periods of history. I strongly suggest a visitor to read some material about its history before or during the visit, as each part of the cathedral has its own story.
