Once a major source of irritation for the country's Communist regime, John Lennon Wall remains an important symbol of Prague's struggle for democracy. Young Czechs started writing their grievances here in the early 1980s, often clashing with security police on a nearby bridge. The wall lost its political edge in the 1990s and today features mostly John Lennon-inspired graffiti and fragments of well-known Beatles songs. The wall is a continuous work in progress, each new attempt to whitewash it simply providing tourists with a blank canvas on which to add more peace messages, drawings, and poems. For travelers who use our custom trip planner, Prague holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the John Lennon Wall and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • Very moving place with great historical background. It is located in the city centre, very close to Charles’ Bridge. Perfect for taking pictures.

  • It is huge, good place to make photos, sometimes It is crowded but totally worth It. It is near to Charles Bridge. Now due to the war there are many Ukraine flags and poems.

  • Super great place, you truly get the feeling on how those guys would have felt back in the days when they have to watch over the kingdom. I wonder how they went to the bathroom... Is pretty high, for the epoch when it was built of course
  • Date of visit - 22/12/21 The wall is an interesting piece, slightly out of the way Wenceslas Square but still within walking distance, and on the way to the Castle. It had been slightly underwhelming compared to the descriptions online and other reviews, as the wall is smaller than expected and covered in advertisements and less, at least subjectively, visually appealing graffiti. Understandably the wall has 'history' within Prague, but the wall itself has no relationship with Lennon, he never visited it. This is purely a wall that has been assigned the role of remembering Lennon, and being an emblem of political and speech freedoms. Interesting nonetheless, but not necessarily high on the list of tourism activities and sights.
