Fuggerei is the oldest social housing project in the world, set up in the 16th century. Explore the walled enclave, and visit the model home to see what the houses look like inside. A visit to the museum, Catholic church, and a World War II bunker is included with your admission. In the museum, see what the apartments looked like when they were built more than 400 years ago, and learn more about the ethos of this project. Make sure to stop for a coffee and slice of cake in the restaurant. Guided tours are available. For travelers who use our world travel planner, Augsburg holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Fuggerei and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

An amazing community that was started over 500 years ago to help people who wanted to work but could not afford housing. The museum detailing history is a must see, and it is a worthwhile visit for the beauty of the buildings.
