Barocke Kreuzigungsgruppe, Bamberg

The crucifixion group is a very impressive piece of sculpture. The faces, the facial expressions, the robes and many small details are very well worked out and so everything looks very harmonious together. The crucifixion group is a real hotspot for history and photography.

On the Upper Bridge from 1453–56 (renewed) which by leading to the town hall tower, are the sculptures of a baroque Crucifixion group by Leonhard Gollwitzer from 1715 and the St. Nepomuk, a typical ›bridge saint‹ who preceded the driving the water should protect. The sandstone sculpture was created in 1715. In the center is Jesus on the cross, with Mary Magdalene at his feet. On the right is John the Baptist, on the left is Mary. The lower level shows the evangelists Luke, Matthew and Mark and two flanking angels. The Bamberg sculptor Leonhard Gollwitzer created this work in 1715.
