In the 1970s, Alexanderplatz became the centerpiece of East Germany's modern socialist approach to architecture and city planning. Alex, as many locals call it, has lived many lives over the centuries, including cattle market, military parade ground, center stage of one of the largest anti-government demonstrations in the country's history, and modern transportation hub. The square's name honors Tsar Alexander I of Russia, who visited the city in 1805. Today, the square attracts tourists with its iconic clock, a rotating installation displaying time around the globe. The nearby TV tower, the city's highest structure, features a popular rotating viewing platform. I really liked this place, the square is not too big but have a lot of monuments and the Soviet architecture of some buildings fascinated me a lot. It's also easy to reach every place in the city...

Very beautiful square. In a the center of the city, circled by so many monuments and sight seeing. The fountains are fabulous at night. It's also got a lot of cafes and restaurants/fast food and the tower of television, of course. Easily accessible by public transportation. A must visit!
