Nicknamed "the balcony of Europe," Bruehlsche Terrasse offers superb views of the River Elbe. Take a walk down the terrace to admire the historic buildings and picturesque surroundings. Pause near the Johann Friedrich Böttger monument to look for a fingerprint in the guardrail of the terrace garden. It is said to have been left by August the Strong and to be proof of his strength. Pop into a cafe, sip a coffee, and watch the mix of tourists and locals walk by. The area around this view is charming, and the view itself is lovely. We were there on a sunny day, and a cloudy day as well--both times the view was fantastic

We were brought here after dark one weekday evening recently - by the city dungeon keeper! We were on a walking tour to discover the macabre side of this fascinating city. Anyway he brought us up onto the terrace and we had a chance to both gain a wonderful night time view of the river and to listen to the various medieval methods of effecting punishment of the villainous inhabitants of this fair city all those years ago. That evening it was quite busy and it is easy to understand why. The views are fantastic.

A terrace that gives great views of the Elbe and the city of Dresden The terrace contains modern artworks, including some by David Cerny. The reconstructed buildings of Dresden can be seen from here, and it is well worth taking some time just to take in the surroundings here while visiting Dresden.
