Create an itinerary including Ettal Abbey
Ettal Abbey has been in operation as a Benedictine monastery for centuries, following the strict monastic lifestyle while welcoming the public to its community. The basilica that acts as the monastery's main gathering place often hosts religious holiday celebrations that attract large crowds to its domed chapel. Tour the grounds and the majestic basilica, then head over to the Klostermarkt, where you can buy beer brewed by the monks. The proceeds go to support the upkeep of the monastery grounds and the charitable work. For travelers who use our custom trip planner, Ettal holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Ettal Abbey and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • The abbey was lovely to visit. The beer with the same name is also quite delicious. Worth a visit. The gift shop was really good here.

  • The Benediktinerabtei Ettal was really a sight to behold, and very majestic. Dominating the sleepy little town of Ettal. Be sure to head into the Basilica and stay awhile!
  • Ettal Abbey is surrounded by beautiful mountains and waterfalls! We enjoyed walking around the compound and just enjoying the fresh air. There is a shop within the compound that has beer that is brewed there and outside of the compound there is a cheese shop. We spent around an hour there and the stop was well worth it.
