  • The walls are a significant component of the whole experience. An impressive piece of engineering, and credit to the community for taking such interest in its upkeep of the structures.

  • A beautiful tower above the entrance to the city. The youngest of the twenty-odd surrounding the city.
  • Spitalbastei in Rothenburg ob der Tauber Rothenburg has many magnificent historical buildings to offer. In addition to the castle gate, the Spitalbastei is the most powerful bulwark in the city. It was built in the 16th century by Leonhard Weidmann to form the hospital district and is considered the last large building to be erected. The ring-shaped vaulted buildings of the city wall are considered to be two small fortresses. They should protect from the attackers as a bastion. As part of the hospital complex, which has a large number of buildings, the hospital church can also be seen. It was built around 1280 outside the city wall on the Kappentipfel. Just 100 years later, both the hospital and the church were integrated into the new city wall. As a visitor, you can of course also visit the facility from the inside and marvel at the advanced work of the master builders of the time. From the outside, the Spitalbastei looks very artistic and accurately worked. The city wall, which encloses the Spitalbastei and the Spitalturm, was extended three times, for which the stones of the old ruined castle could be used.
