Part of the vast, interconnected caves beneath Castle Hill, Hospital in the Rock Nuclear Bunker Museum served as a nuclear bunker and emergency hospital during 20th-century wartime. During World War II, the 10 km (6 mi) of caves and cellars in this region were connected and used as a bomb shelter. You can visit the hospital portion, where doctors treated civilians and soldiers until July 1945, then again during the 1956 Revolution. Take a guided tour of the hospital, learn more about Hungarian history from 1938 up through the Cold War, and witness the difficult conditions under which doctors and nurses worked in these caves. • I enjoyed my visit here and it was pretty interesting and I learnt some good history around an area I knew very little about. However there were some draw backs. The main negative was the guided tour. I felt we were rushed through it and we weren’t given enough time to look at exhibits on the way around. For this they charged us 18 euros each. An self guide tour with headphones was 8 euros I think and I’d have much preferred that. Also they don’t let you take photos… although I managed to sneak a few. 😄😎 Worth a visit though but could do better with what they have.
  • Starting off with a short film to explain the history, this 1.5 hour tour is 100% worth it. I’m so happy we came here. History is so interesting and the tour guide did a great job explaining the history of this place with detailed information. Only guided tour is available so book in advance.. the lower point is 18 meters below ground level.
