Explore the dark side of Hungarian and European history at House of Terror Museum, a specialty museum focusing on fascist and communist regimes. The permanent exhibits feature artifacts from Nazi Germany, the Soviet Union, the fascist Arrow Cross Party, and the communist AVH (Hungarian State Protection Authority). Walk into the depths of violent, dictatorial moments that took place the 20th century by stepping into the museum's basement, where AVH prisoners were once held and tortured. These cells serve as a memorial to victims of the country's bloody regimes. Since it opened in 2002, this museum has become a member of the Platform of European Memory and Conscience. Unassuming from the outside, this museum hosts four floors of exhibitions, offering a detailed insight into Hungary's past, from the Nazi occupation of Hungary in 1944 right up until the conversion...

Most of the information is in Hungarian and only some printed info sheets in English in each section of the museum. Photos are not allowed and the staff can be quite rude. It would be better to skip..... more

Moving, superbly setup museum on a tough topic. Small museum but extremely well setup for visitors with audio guides in most languages that automatically trigger as you enter a given room. This was a killer feature that made the visit even more easy to traverse. Extremely inexpensive and well maintained. Man’s inhumanity to man is well documented and movingly portrayed. I wish every museum was so well setup. One can spend 3 hours at the museum easily to do it justice.

Very easy to find, nice and quiet place. Tickets cost 3000 per person,if you are EU citizen younger than 26 you get some discounts. They will tell you to not take any pictures, and they try to monitor that very well, not all of them succeed 😊 Anyways good experience, well worth the money.
