While it offers excellent views of the city, Szechenyi Lanchid serves as a historic landmark itself: It's the first bridge to span the Danube River in Hungary. Built by English engineer William Tierney in 1849, this structure connects the east and west side of Hungary's capital city. The bridge features two road lanes, plus a pedestrian zone for those traveling on foot. Cross this well-known symbol of Budapest, marvel at its stone structure, and compare both sides of the city. Visit Széchenyi Square on the Pest side of the bridge, or head up to the Castle Hill on the Buda side. • The iconic Chain Bridge is great for pictures, but at present it's closed to all pedestrian traffic and only buses and taxies can cross it. Thus, take a tour, bus, or taxi to cross it and see it up...

  • Sadly under renovation so limited traffic and no walkers! Would have liked to walk across. Saw it often from either side and the river, especially pretty at night

  • Yes, this architectural jewel is just as majestic as you have heard. The unique bridge that connects Buda and Pest is a must for photos and walks. The feeling of walking on something like that is amazing. Of course, don't forget to see it at night. It's great!
