The biggest mosque in Pristina, Džamija cara, is distinguished by its 15 m (98 ft) dome and lavish arabesques on interior walls and ceilings. Built between 1460 and 1461 by orders of Sultan Mehmet the Second, the mosque was the most prominent one in the region at its time, with the largest dome at the top. Its minaret stands above the surrounding buildings. The gardens provide a calm retreat to the locals and tourists alike. Inside the mosque, see well-preserved colorful floral ornaments and a mix of minimalistic and Islamic decorative elements.
