At Central Market (Centraltirgus), see how old German zeppelin hangars from World War I were reconstructed to serve as venues to sell meat, fish, produce, and dairy products. One of the most notable structures from 20th century in Latvia, this market has been included in World Heritage List. Try some smoked salmon, homemade apple juice, caviar, or freshly picked mushrooms. You can shop for nonfood items, too, such as knee-length woolen socks with "Riga" knitted into them. Each pavilion has slightly different opening hours. To visit Central Market (Centraltirgus) on your trip to Riga, use our Riga journey builder website.

Worth a visit to see all the local produce, fish and meat. Wasn't quite as bustling as I had expected but it was worth the trip and explore anyway

Pretty cool place to look around and fun to browse the stalls. It's more of a local market for the residents as they get their food there, so it's not very touristy. Therefore you feel like you're getting a glimpse of normal Riga life and we enjoyed that. It was somewhat empty in places with lots of the same products over and over but it's still cool to look around. Didn't buy anything as we were just here for a few days but it's a good way to spend half an hour and get a slice of Riga life.

Worth visiting. Riga Central Market is situated in the heart of Riga, a few hundred meters from Old Town on the banks of the River Daugava, next to Riga International Bus Terminal and Central Railway Station. It is not only one of the largest marketplaces in Eastern Europe in area, but also one of the most visited, as 80,000-100,000 people shop there per day on the average.Architecturally-imposing food pavilions, built in the 1920s, are Riga Central Market’s calling card. Originally used as military airship hangars, they were later transformed into market venues. At Riga Central Market, you can buy Latvian-grown and homemade products, exotic fruit and spices, as well as manufactured merchandise. The market includes 5 pavilions each with its own category - vegetables, dairy, meat, fish and gastronomy products, as well as an outdoor area with stalls and stands.
