Located on the site of a 15th-century Genoese wooden fort, Soroca Fortress boasts an impressive stone edifice, and is a must-see for history buffs. At the center of Soroca city, situated on the right bank of the Dniester river, the fortress was a fortified trading post built by Stephen the Great in 1499 to protect his goods from Polish and Hungarian forces. Wander the halls of this castle tower, and take in the views of the castle town and surrounding countryside from the fortress walls. The fortress does not offer guided tours, but you can take a self-guided tour, or hire a local tour guide. A must visit location when you travel to/through Soroca. This historical structure has been preserved fairly well. It offers great views of the cities' surrounding areas and neighboring Ukraine across the river.

Beautiful fortress rebuilt in 1546 from stone after being made from wood. It survived many wars and is now watching another one in Ukraine, which its land can be seen from it across the river. It's of the the must-see of moldova.
