Enjoyed our visit to the cemetery. Very nice grounds; well maintained. Nice little bit of history tucked away.

The grounds of the War cemetery are beautiful and pristine. The trees in the area are glorious. As an Australian I am very grateful to have such a beautiful war cemetery that I didn't even know...

A memorable experience for me when I visited 9 years ago. Probably one of the most beautiful Military Cemeteries in New Guinea. It is south of Rabaul along a scenic drive down the coast, then turning inland just past the Vunapope Catholic Cathedral into the very steep hills. The high location of the cemetery allows views of the two big active volcanoes to the north at Rabaul. High shrubs with flowers add to the presence of this solemn place. Down in the deep nearby valley is Ramale where my dear father Sgt N.C. Kennedy (machine gunner) helped liberate the nuns, priests and the bishop of the Vunapope Catholic Mission on 16 September 1945 from the Japanese. The Vunapope Mission was the largest Christian Mission in the South Pacific during WW2.
