Once at the heart of the Inca Empire, Sacred Valley of the Incas plays home to many of the region's most popular archeological sites, cities, and places to visit. Grab your boots and trek through the area to get an up-close look at the mountain environment via the network of hiking trails and paths. Explore the rugged mountain valley to get a glimpse of Inca fortifications and settlements like Pisac, Moray, Tipon, and Ollantaytambo, which feature terraced hillsides and imposing stone citadels. The valley also boasts a number of quiet villages and colonial-era gems; Cusco is perhaps the best known, but plenty of smaller villages featuring markets and sights of their own line the valley's length. I mean, what can I say that hasn't been said? The landscapes and scenery are gorgeous. Breathtaking, actually, and I say that without being dramatic. If you're in Cusco, there is much more to see and do than Machu Pichu (no shade) and the Sacred Valley is one of those things. Please understand that the entire valley is huge and if you want to see it all, you'll likely need to take a week or more to catch all the sights. I stopped by Pisac, the Salt Marshes, the Sun Temple, and Ollantatytambo. All amazing (check out my photos below) and definitely worth the trip. You will need a car or bus to move from location to location. Walking is not recommended, unless you plan for that to be your trip. There are daily, weekly, and monthly passes. If you're not Peruvian, you will be charged a little more, so expect that. I'd recommend packing a sun hat, sunscreen, water, and a nice winter coat. Even on a sunny day, if you step into the shade you'll feel the chill and there were definitely a few breezes when I visited. There are several street vendors selling food, clothes, ornaments, etc (while you're in the more modern built up town areas I mean) and you can haggle with them as you wish. All in all, more than worth the trip and I can't wait to return. Follow me on Instagram @natashalane84 for more travel reviews, tips, and social commentary!

It was another of the places that we had included in our itinerary package that we had contracted. The company that was in charge in Peru was salkantay trekking. We went with a very good guide who explained everything to us with great affection for his work, giving encouragement to those who found it difficult to climb and making the necessary stops. This archaeological site is located at almost 2,700 meters and the height is felt. It served as a fort for the leader of the Inca resistance at one time. Fabulous construction with ruins on all sides, cobbled streets, agricultural terraces and remains of a temple.
