Forested with fir and pine trees, Mountain of Vodno provides panoramic views of the city and offers many opportunities for walking and hiking. At the top of the mountain stands an iconic 66 m (216 ft) tall cross, erected in 2002 to celebrate two millennia of Christianity. At the summit, stop for herbal tea, soda, or beer in a chalet near the cross and view the pictures of accomplished Macedonian alpinists mounted on the walls of the cabin. You'll also find the barracks of the Macedonian army in the vicinity. The slopes of the mountain shelter a medieval fortress and a monastery built in the 12th century. Close to the city and it is a nice place to visit. You can buy coffee and some food. The parking fee is too much (100 denars per hour).
