Former residence of German explorer Dr. Richard Kandt, Kandt House Museum today stands as a natural history museum and displays Rwanda's wildlife, vegetation, and the focal point--a live snake exhibit. The first section features taxidermied zebras, antelopes, native birds, and wild animals. In the second section, see minerals and rocks found in the country. The last and most exciting section displays snakes, including the ominous black mamba. Keep in mind that captions come in Kinyarwanda and German; you can, however, opt for an English guided tour. The museum is also known for the great vista of the old city and the three surrounding mountains. This is a depressing museum in more ways than one. It provides an important reminder of the terrors of colonialism. But it's very minimal and those poor snakes are not in good conditions. And...

We got a tour of how Kigali came to be, past colonial eras and the justice system in place before they were colonized. The tour guide was soft spoken, very detailed and patient also. I also got to see the reptiles they had at the museum. Totally recommend this place as one of the attraction sites to see if you are visiting Kigali for the first time.

Great place to visit. It is easy to find and it is quite beautiful incide. You get ticket at the entrance and can choose what you would like to visit an exposition which will tell you about culture, it's history , crafts or you can pay only for the tickets to see the snakes and a small crocodile. People who are working there are really friendly and openly answer on all the questions you get. Highly recommended!
