NWC was founded in 2007 as a self-help group and quickly grew to become a center that offers free education for women in the Nyamirambo neighbourhood. Today women can join the center for classes in English, literacy, computer, sewing and handicrafts. NWC also organises workshops on Gender Equality, Women's rights and gender-based violence. In 2014 a community library was opened offering books in Kinyarwanda, French and English.Use our Kigali travel itinerary planner to arrange your visit to Nyamirambo Women's Center and other attractions in Kigali.
In an effort to develop income-generating activities for the center but also for the women of the community, NWC developed a community-based tourism project that offers guided cultural walks in Nyamirambo and Umutima, a new line of household and children's products.

Beautiful hand-made crafts, in reasonable prices (some of them 50% lower than in a boutique store in my hotel) Plus the fact that by buying these products you support women’s community working there..... more

I stopped in their shop, Umutima which is a women's cooperative. The shop is just lovely. Though small they have a big variety of items -- all made by the women in the co-op. The fabrics are all...

The walking tour with home made lunch is definitely a highlight of the town! Self-funding women center established 20 years ago supported by a Swiss lady - now turned to a high quality product producing handcraft center. Love the products from sisters and teaching of area culture in the town! Recommended!!!

So refreshing compared to the stress and pressure of the larger markets. Great local goods on offer. The seamstresses can make garments in one working day. I bought a beautiful kimono off the rack, a beach bag, hand bag, and luggage tags. There are children's clothes and beautiful soft toys and home furnishings. No pressure to buy anything. Very fair prices. They take card payments, too. A must visit.
