Built in 1913 and massively renovated in 2009, Mercado San Miguel attracts visitors with its famous tapas, though there’s much more to try here, from fine caviar to delicious chocolate snacks. This indoor market is part culinary tourist attraction, part cultural center, located in the very heart of the city. Whether you’re looking to buy something specific or just browsing the tempting stalls, it’s worth a stop for the sights and smells of dried ham, fine wine, baked goodies, and other treats offered by the vendors. The entrance is easily identifiable by its ornate iron posts. Discover how to plan a Madrid trip in just a few steps with Inspirock's itinerary builder.

  • Great experience! This market has a variety of foods and even has some aspects of a flea market. It is usually full but personally, my family and I did not mind. It truly depends on the time of year.....  more

  • Great modern building with lots of different stalls. You’ll see lots of people raving about how great this place is for food, drink and atmosphere. Yes, it’s great, but it’s also catering for the tourist and some locals too. If you’re after an authentic experience then head to a local place but for convince and just everything under one roof, then this is a must tick off. Most tapas and food range between €2 to €20 euro. A pint of beer cost me €8. You can basically have your dinner here as you will be stuffed! We came at night and it was great as it wasn’t as busy as it would be during the day time.
  • A must for any tourist. Very cute market place with a variety of food and drink selections. Lines are not long to purchase your food and it tastes fresh. I very much enjoyed the plentiful of indoor seating options. Great place to go and get a quick small bite to eat or buy fruits, fish, meat to take home.
