Admire the traditional design and reverential atmosphere at Wat Chedi Luang Worawihan, a Buddhist temple located in Chiang Mai's historical center. King Saen Muang Ma initiated construction in the 14th century, intending to bury his father's ashes here. The project wasn't completed until the mid 15th century, and since then the temple has been rebuilt, refurbished, and redesigned on numerous occasions. Originally three separate temple areas, the sites were joined up to create the place of worship you see today, making it an area of impressive scale as well as architecture. Visit the grounds to discover its interesting and volatile history; look for the replica of the famous Emerald Buddha once housed here and the city pillar surrounded by three dipterocarp trees. Our Chiang Mai trip itinerary tool makes visiting Wat Chedi Luang Worawihan and other Chiang Mai attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

We liked the temple very much as it was very majestic and beautiful. The Chedi (pagoda) was partially destroyed during an earthquake many years ago, but most parts of the structure still remained...

What a beautiful place! I was lucky enough to get here during the festival. Live music, celebration, praying, food in the street. Everything is amazing, and new for something coming from a different continent. Everyone is nice and respectful, and it’s a universe of culture and events of interest. Thanks for the great moment!!

When you’re in Chiang Mai this is a must visit. The temple was small but wonderful and it was worth visiting. This place is wonderful and fascinating! Wear temple appropriate clothing. Even though there was construction, the place was quiet and peaceful. Not a huge place so you can cover it in an hour. Was easy getting to the place with Bolt or Grab. A lot of history in this place and well worth your time.
