Create an itinerary including Woodchester Mansion Trust
Take a tour of an unfinished Gothic revival building, Woodchester Mansion Trust. Construction began on the mansion in 1858, but ceased completely when the owner William Leigh died. Leigh's surviving family, significantly less interested in the mansion's austere design than Leigh himself, could not afford the cost of demolishing the building and starting over. Today the mansion, which appears completed from the outside, provides a unique insight into the techniques of Victorian stone masons. After admiring the unfinished rooms, gargoyles, and fine interior carvings of the house, take some time to explore the extensive gardens and grounds that surround it, including shady woods and several carp-filled lakes. A cafe on the grounds provides refreshments. • most amazing historical house. Abandoned before completion giving the opportunity to see how these homes were built. Unusually you get to see things that are not seen like kitchens bathrooms cellars and attics. House is placed in a magical valley with lovely lakes so this place a recommend as a fantastic place to visit
  • Didn't get to vist the house but the grounds are beautiful, and on the outside the house is impressive and well managed by Woodchester Trust. Pay to park (free for some national trust members). then you can walk three separate loops (or combine) each a different distance and scenic choice from 45min to a couple of hours. Natural lakes surrounded by woodlands are beautiful. There are farm animals so pay attention to closing gates and keeping a dog on a lead where stated. Plenty of stops with tables for a picnic. Well worth a visit. Updated to correct that this is managed by Woodchester Trust not the National trust.
