Erected in the 19th century, Trinity Church remains one of Boston's most famous places of worship. The current complex, built between 1872 and 1877, was designed by Henry Hobson Richardson and is considered both the birthplace and archetype of the Richardsonian Romanesque style of architecture. It is characterized by its clay roof, use of rough stone, heavy arches, and large tower. Inside you can find a number of colorful murals that cover over 2,000 sq m (21,5000 sq ft), all of which are works of American artists. Take a guided tour to learn more about the history and architecture of this beloved Boston institution. Tours are offered daily; children 15 and under are free with a paying adult. Trinity Church is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our , world travel planner Edition.

  • Trinity Church is must-see for anyone visiting Boston, but especially religious architecture enthusiasts. It is a stunning example of Romanesque architecture. There is a small fee to enter the church as a tourist, but just viewing the exterior will be enough for most. Take lots of beautiful photographs. It is located directly across from the public library ( another beauty), so you can see them during the same visit.
  • Downtown gem! Dropped in for the 11am tour after visiting the public library right across the street. Peter was very knowledgeable about the history, art, and architecture of the building. Gorgeous stained glass in multiple styles. Never been to Boston and I truly had no idea what I was getting myself into on this trip but I was so pleased to find Trinity Church!
